About the project

The project aims to investigate transformations and distortions of normative, (i.e. moral, political and legal) orders and the distinction between legitimate and illegitimate practices in “non-ideal” political systems.  

The project explores the following questions:

• How should we assess conceptions of normativity under non-ideal conditions?

• What is the relationship between legality and legitimacy under non-ideal conditions? What are the consequences of for our understanding of political authority?

• What exactly are the standards for acting morally under non-ideal conditions? What impact do normatively distorted background conditions have on our understanding of moral principles and the ways in which we apply them?
